I feel like I’m one of those lucky few who still have their grandparents. I was blessed growing up to have several great grandparents around as well. I learned so much from them. I thought every kid grew up having all of their grandparents and even most of their great grandparents close by. My entire family was within ten minutes of my house.
I desperately wish my great grandpa could have met my husband Jon. He would have liked Jon very much. Grandpa was one of those guys who quite school before high school, but was one of the smartest men I know. He lived a modest life, not perfect, but he loved us great grandkids. I think my sister has 47 Barbies, all thanks to Grandpa!
I miss my great grandma’s cooking. Growing up my mom and dad would mow my great grandma’s lawn and typically all us kids would go along as well. Usually we’d make the eight minute drive to Grandma’s house after dinner, when it would be cooler in the summer time. Grandma, doing what most grandma’s do best, would always try and feed us. Of course, who could say no to Grandma’s cooking?! My mom would come into the house and just shake her head and smile, as she would watch us stuff delicious bites of sweet potato sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar into our mouths.
I have been blessed with such a Godly heritage in my grandparents and parents. Our time at the beach was one that I will never forget and treasure for ever.
