Last week I went home for a quick visit and to attend my 10 year high school reunion. I really can’t believe that it has been that long. While I was home, I had the opportunity to go to Chicago to shoot some family portraits for a friend of mine. My sister-in-law, Katie, also asked if I could take some updated pictures of her and my brother, Dave. The last ‘professional’ pictures they had done were at their wedding almost 2 years ago.
Katie and I had decided we’d go to downtown South Bend for the shoot since there are a lot of interesting things downtown. However, Dave had other ideas and we ended up shooting the session at my grandparent’s farm. Katie is so easy to take pictures of, she just knows how to do that serious look without looking mad (like I tend to do). Dave. . . well, he put his happy face on and tried to make the best of it.
I’m happy with how the pictures turned out, but wish I had taken more. I love shooting pictures with family because I feel I can experiment a little bit more instead of playing it safe with clients. As I told Katie, I think they did great, but wish I had done more.
On this shoot I practiced a little bit of shooting into the sun and having those coveted sun rays and sun flare show up in the picture. As you will see, I’m still learning, other photographers make it look so easy! Anyways, without further ado, here are Dave and Katie’s pictures.
