In a few days from now, I will be shooting the wedding of Sam and Rachel! These two have been dating for a couple of years and are finally tying the knot! We did their engagement pictures last fall which, by-the-way, is my favorite time to take pictures!
We discussed their clothing choice. Sam and Rachel wanted some dressy pictures and then a few casual pictures. For the dressier images, I tried to choose more romantic and intimate poses. I felt the clothing choice just led this way and I was happy with the turn out.
We did shoot some more causal poses while they were still dressed up, and I actually really liked how this image turned out.
The barn in this image really worked well. I love to use dark backgrounds when shooting portraits. I feel it lends the people in the image to pop more, while the background is complimentary. I had Rachel place her weight on her left leg and slightly bend the right knee inward. This softened the pose and made her look more flattering.
I had Sam position his weigh on his left left and turn his right leg slightly outwards. I also asked him to place his right hand in his pocket, thumb sticking out. Most times people just don’t know what to do with their hands in pictures. Putting your hand in a pocket gives them something to do with it. Or for the ladies, place it on your hip.
The second image is a fun, carefree pose and it’s meant to be more casual. I love their choice of clothing and colors here. It complimented each other nicely, and worked really well in the setting we were shooting.
Here, I asked Rachel to turn her head slightly towards Sam and lean into his right arm a little bit. I just told Sam to give her hug and he really didn’t need much direction. I’m not sure what I said prior to taking this photo, but it did get a genuine smile out of both of them.
Both of these images were taken around sunset in October.
