Growing up, I wasn’t really the kind of person who liked the idea of doing a craft, but once I got started, there was no stopping me. I don’t really consider myself to be artsy and when it comes to decorating or making something I have a hard time coming up with where to start.
Well a few weeks ago, the creative bug bit me and I wanted to make something. Crazy, I know. After perusing Pinterest for some ideas I had pinned, I had my list and headed out to Hobby Lobby.
I wanted to buy a wood peg rack to hang Wyatt’s clothes and little bags on for his room. The idea was to buy it unfinished and I would sand and stain it. Easy peasy. No problems there. It looks great and its just waiting for me to get it hung up in Wyatt’s room.
The second craft and might I had much more difficult than the little pinterest picture looked (those things are so deceiving by the way), was canvas art. The tutorial on pinterest made it look fairly simple, simple enough so that I would have a hard time messing it up.
I purchased my three 12×12 canvases, picked out three different colors of paint (this was the hardest part believe it or not) and picked up a few paint supplies that I didn’t have on hand at home.
The goal was to spray paint the canvases a nice color ivory, place a stencil on it and paint over the stencil leaving this awesome cool design that any museum in the country would be proud to hang in its walls. I chose Prussian Blue, Desert Turquoise, and Butterscotch from the Americana collection for my colors. The ivory spray paint was what I sprayed over my white canvas.
It didn’t quite turn out that way. The stencils never laid completely flat on the canvas and thus the paint wasn’t a clean print. It was a little frustrating, as what I had pictured in my head didn’t quite turn out right, and I really didn’t know how hard stenciling would be.
I mean come on, I learned this stuff in kindergarten! But alas, I did finish and granted its not hanging on my living room wall . . . yet. But if you look at it from a distance, it really doesn’t look that bad.
As you can see, there are only two finished canvases, the third one didn’t quite turn out so he got scrapped.
Have you ever actually tried an idea you saw on Pinterest? How did it turn out? Let me know if you have any pointers for me!
