Over the weekend I had the opportunity to take my nephew’s 1-year-old pictures and for the occasion I decided to rent 2 lenses. I always rent any equipment I might need for a shoot from LensRentals.com. I have been impressed with their customer service and their 2-day shipping is wonderful.
I decided to branch out a little bit and try a couple of lenses that I haven’t shot with before. Typically I will rent the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L and the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II for my shoots or weddings. This time around I wanted to expand my portfolio with a different lens.
I have heard so many people talk about prime lenses and I wanted to give them a try. I’ve heard how crisp and sharp the images are. I’ve heard how creamy these prime lenses can make skin tones and I was up for the challenge.
I rented the Canon 35mm f/1.4L and the Canon 85mm f/1.2L II and played around with them a little bit. I did use them to shoot my nephew’s session the next day, but here’s a few pictures from the night before. I think my favorite is the Canon 35mm, but the 85mm is a close second. These images are pretty much right out of the camera.
